Quality Management Standards for Adhesive Bonding Technology in the Railway Industry
— From DIN 6701 to EN 17460

This standard systematically defines product class classifications based on safety requirements, the competence and qualifications of personnel involved in adhesive bonding, and guidelines for design and verification, playing a central role in ensuring the reliability of adhesive bonding.
In 2008, Deutsche Bahn (DB) formally adopted DIN 6701. Since then, in Germany, obtaining certification under this standard has become a mandatory requirement for manufacturing products using adhesive bonding and sealing technologies in the railway sector.
Initially, there were no equivalent standards worldwide, and railway companies across Europe began obtaining certification. As a result, DIN 6701 effectively became a binding standard across Europe.
In July 2022, this framework was officially established as the European standard EN 17460:2022, positioning it as the European standard in the railway industry.
Today, EN 17460 has been widely adopted by railway suppliers across Asia, including China, and serves as a global standard supporting the improvement of reliability in adhesive bonding technology for the railway sector.
Standards for General Industries and International Standardization— From DIN 2304 to ISO 21368

DIN 2304, issued in 2013, serves as a quality management standard for adhesive bonding technology across a wide range of industries, including automotive, aerospace, shipbuilding, wind power, and electronics. This standard has been increasingly adopted in sectors requiring high reliability, such as the European automotive and semiconductor industries, providing an essential framework for ensuring quality in adhesive bonding.
Unlike DIN 6701, obtaining DIN 2304 certification is not mandatory and is left to the discretion of companies. However, acquiring certification serves as a strong proof to customers that adhesive-bonded products are manufactured under an established quality management system.
In particular, in the European automotive industry, complete vehicle manufacturers often require suppliers to establish a quality assurance system. There is also a growing trend for OEMs to mandate certification for their suppliers.
Due to these factors, DIN 2304 has spread beyond Germany and throughout the international supply chain. In 2022, it was formalized as the international standard ISO 21368, officially establishing DIN 2304 as a global standard.
Furthermore, the main standards in this field (DIN 2304 / DIN 6701 / EN 17460 / ISO 21368) share three core elements:
・Product class classification (based on safety requirements)
・Competence and qualifications of adhesive bonding personnel
・Guidelines for design and verification
The training and certification programs offered by AESB cover all these standards, earning high trust both domestically and internationally.
